Care Instructions

Dry Clean Only
Cold Wash
Hang to Dry
Never Bleach

Your YAES pieces are built to last for years, and the way you care for them determines how they age. Denim and structured ready-to-wear are not everyday-launder garments — less washing and more careful treatment is the secret to clothing that gets better with time. Follow these guidelines and each piece will reward you with a longer life and a richer patina.

Dry Cleaning — Our Recommendation

We recommend dry cleaning only for all YAES garments. Professional dry cleaning preserves the integrity of the fabric, the structure of the construction, and the finish of the hardware far better than home washing. It prevents shrinkage, colour loss, and the distortion that machine washing can cause to heavy denim and tailored pieces. For best results, take your pieces to a trusted dry cleaner and let them know the fabric content — it is always listed on the internal care label.

If You Must Wash at Home — Cold Water Only

If dry cleaning is not an option, wash rarely and wash cold. Turn the garment inside out, use cold water (30°C or below), and choose the gentlest cycle your machine offers. Never use hot water — heat is the enemy of raw denim and structured fabric, causing shrinkage, fading, and fibre damage. Use a mild, colour-safe detergent, and never use bleach or fabric softeners, which break down natural fibres and strip the finish from your pieces.

Drying — Always Hang, Never Tumble

After washing, reshape the garment while damp and hang it to dry in a well-ventilated space away from direct sunlight, which can fade the colour. Never use a tumble dryer — the heat and agitation will shrink, warp, and damage the fabric. Hanging preserves the shape of the garment and lets it dry gently and evenly. For denim, hanging from the waistband by a clip hanger helps the legs dry straight.

Storage & Day-to-Day Care

Between wears, let your pieces rest. Denim benefits from being hung or folded neatly rather than crammed — give it room to breathe and recover its shape. Avoid hanging heavy denim on thin hangers that can leave shoulder bumps; fold along the seams or use a sturdy hanger instead. Spot-clean small marks rather than washing the whole garment, and air your pieces out between wears to keep them fresh. With this kind of care, your YAES clothing will not just last — it will develop a character that is entirely yours.
